Chris Gibson is a Professor of Criminology, Law & Society at the University of Florida's Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law since 2007. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska, with earlier degrees from East Tennessee State University. His research focuses on life-course criminology, biosocial factors, neighborhood influences on youth, and applied quantitative methods. He has authored over 70 scholarly works and secured grants from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), including recognition as a W.E.B. Du Bois Fellow.
Dr. Gibson teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on criminological research methods, criminal careers, and theoretical frameworks. His work frequently examines interactions between genetic factors and environmental contexts, particularly in antisocial behavior and victimization dynamics. Recent studies highlight his contributions to understanding how neighborhood disadvantage and low self-control predict violent victimization among youth.
