Ramana Nanda is a Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance and Academic Lead of the Institute for Deep Tech Entrepreneurship at Imperial College London. He previously served as Sarofim-Rock Professor at Harvard Business School (2007–2020) and received his Ph.D. from MIT Sloan School of Management, alongside BA/MA in Economics from Trinity College, Cambridge. His research focuses on financing challenges facing startups, venture capital dynamics, and innovation policies. He advises startups and investors on deep tech solutions to global challenges.
Research Interests: Nanda explores financing frictions in new ventures, venture capital's role in innovation, and policy frameworks for commercializing technologies. His work bridges academic insights with practical tools for entrepreneurs and financial intermediaries. Key themes include venture capital syndicates, gender gaps in entrepreneurship, and infrastructure's impact on entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Awards: Recipient of the 2015 Kauffman Prize Medal, 2017 Schulze Distinguished Professorship, and the 2012 World Finance Conference Best Paper Award. His research has been supported by grants from institutions like the Kauffman Foundation and the Harvard Center for the Environment.
