معرفی
Raman Sharma is a University Research Fellow at the Adelaide Medical School within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. With over 30 years of experience in molecular and cell biology, he maintains an active research program focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
His research interests center on identifying and characterizing gene variants implicated in neurological conditions, with particular emphasis on molecular pathways that could be targeted for therapeutic interventions. Dr. Sharma's work bridges basic molecular biology with clinical applications, aiming to translate laboratory findings into potential treatments for patients suffering from these challenging conditions.
Dr. Sharma has been recognized with several prestigious awards including the UICC Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer Fellowship in 2009, for which he was subsequently inducted as a Life-time Honorary Fellow of the Union for International Cancer Control. His publication record includes work in high-impact journals such as Journal of Biological Chemistry, Nature Medicine, Oncogene, and Cancer Research.

His research has been consistently supported by major Australian funding bodies including the Australian Research Council, National Health and Medical Research Council, Channel 7 Children's Research Foundation, Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation, Cancer Council of South Australia, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Cancer Council Queensland. Dr. Sharma is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists, providing theoretical and practical training in molecular and cell biology to students at various levels. He currently supervises Masters and PhD students and leads two major research projects: one investigating splice-switching oligonucleotides in a mouse model of inherited polyneuropathy, and another examining THOC2 mRNA export factor variants using patient-derived iPSCs.
