Ram I Mahato, PhD is the Parke-Davis Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Pharmacy. He serves as Principal Investigator of the Nanomedicines and Translational Research Laboratory, where his team conducts cutting-edge research in nanomedicine and drug delivery systems.
Dr. Mahato's research focuses on developing innovative drug delivery platforms for treating various diseases, with particular emphasis on:
- Micelle and Nanoparticulate Drug Delivery systems
- Oligonucleotides, siRNA, miRNA and Gene Delivery approaches
- Synthesis of Novel Polymers, Lipopeptides, Lipopolymers and Cationic Lipids
- Construction of Gene and shRNA Expression Systems
- Design and synthesis of compounds to overcome chemoresistance and inhibit hedgehog signaling pathway
His work targets several critical disease areas including cancer (particularly pancreatic, prostate, melanoma and medulloblastoma), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and liver fibrosis, and type 1 diabetes. Recent publications demonstrate his laboratory's focus on developing targeted delivery systems that improve therapeutic efficacy while reducing toxicity to normal tissues. His research shows a clear trend toward increasingly sophisticated delivery systems that address specific disease mechanisms and overcome biological barriers.
Dr. Mahato's laboratory has received recognition for its contributions to the field of nanomedicine, with numerous publications in high-impact journals covering diverse aspects of drug delivery and therapeutic development.
His multidisciplinary approach combines expertise in pharmaceutics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and polymer chemistry to develop translational solutions for unmet medical needs, with strong potential for clinical applications in multiple disease areas.
