Ralph Weber is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in European Global Studies at the University of Basel since 2014, currently on leave from his position as Privatdozent at the University of Zurich's Department of Philosophy. He holds a Venia Legendi in Philosophy from the University of Zurich (2016) and a PhD from the University of St. Gallen (2007). His research focuses on comparative philosophy, Chinese philosophy (particularly Confucianism), and global political theory, emphasizing cross-cultural methodology and text interpretation.
Education: PhD in Political Science (2007, St. Gallen), Licentiate in Staatswissenschaften (2000, St. Gallen). Key professional roles include co-editing Philosophy East and West since 2012 and serving as Vice Chair of the Europäische Vereinigung für chinesische Philosophie since 2016. His work bridges Western and Eastern philosophical traditions through comparative analysis and intercultural dialogue.
Research interests include the philosophy of comparison, sociopolitical aspects of intercultural philosophy, post-comparative approaches, classical/modern Confucianism, and cross-linguistic research methods. His publications explore Confucian political thought, comparative ethics, and methodological pluralism in political theory.
Notable contributions include co-editing Comparative Philosophy without Borders (2016) and developing the concept of 'tertium comparationis' in his habilitation thesis. His research integrates historical conceptual analysis with contemporary global political questions.
