Ralph Krähnert

Ralph Krähnert is a Researcher at the Technical University of Berlin, affiliated with the Faculty II – Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Department of Chemistry. He leads the Electrochemical Catalysis, Energy and Materials Sciences Group and serves on the Executive Board of UniCat since 2014. His work focuses on the synthesis of porous materials, nanostructures, and catalysts for clean energy applications.

Research interests include heterogeneous catalysis, chemical kinetics, reactor modeling, and electrocatalyst design. His teams develop advanced materials for hydrogen evolution, oxygen evolution, and solar energy conversion. Patents highlight template-assisted methods for porous metal oxide synthesis and nanoparticle formation mechanisms.

Scientific awards include the George Kokotailo Poster Prize (2013) for Björn Eckhardt from his group and multiple grants through the Einstein Foundation. Collaborative projects span mesoporous film fabrication, electrochemical energy systems, and computational modeling of catalytic pore structures.

Labs and teams work closely with UniCat on projects like Chemical Engineering Journal studies of catalyst pore-system prototyping and Advanced Functional Materials research on yolk@shell materials.
