Ralf H. Adams

Professor Ralf H. Adams holds a joint appointment at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster and leads the Department of Tissue Morphogenesis at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. His department operates within the Cells in Motion Interfaculty Centre, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Research Focus:

• Vascular Biology: Mechanisms of blood vessel network formation spanning 90,000 kilometers in the human body
• Angiogenesis: Molecular regulation of vascular development in embryogenesis and pathological contexts
• Tissue Morphogenesis: Cellular crosstalk during organ formation and maintenance
• Cancer Biology: Role of vascular networks in tumor growth and metastasis

His team recently identified ephrin-B2 as a critical membrane protein enabling functional vascular tube connections, with knockout mice exhibiting perinatal lethality. This work bridges developmental biology and oncology, revealing how vascular dysregulation contributes to disease.
