Ralf Erdmann is a Full Professor (W3) at the Department of Systems Biochemistry within the Medical Faculty of Ruhr University Bochum. His work focuses on peroxisomal diseases and glycosome biogenesis in trypanosomatid parasites.
- Diploma in Biology (Ruhr University Bochum)
- PhD in Physiological Chemistry (Ruhr University Bochum, summa cum laude)
- Habilitation in Physiological Chemistry (Ruhr University Bochum)
His research spans peroxisome biogenesis, glycosome characterization, and protein import mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on developing novel therapies for parasitic diseases. He has led the DFG Research Unit FOR 1905 since 2013 and serves as Vice Dean of Research at Ruhr University Bochum.
Publications reveal a focus on peroxisomal translocon dynamics, glycosome inhibitors, and AAA complex interactions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Trypanosoma species.
- 2020: Erwin Schrödinger Award
- 1991: Feodor Lynen Fellowship (Humboldt Foundation)
- 1989: Annual award of the Scientific Society of the University of Bochum
- 1987: FEBS Short Term Fellowship
- 1988: EMBO Short Term Fellowship
He has directed the Institute of Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum since 2002 and co-led EU projects like 'Peroxisomes in Health and Disease'. His leadership roles include Chairman of DFG research units and editorial board memberships.
