Rakesh Tiwari is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Northwest, Western University of Health Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Delhi (2006) and has extensive postdoctoral experience at the University of Rhode Island (2007–2013). His research focuses on designing antimicrobial peptides, targeted drug delivery systems, and neurotherapeutics targeting aging and cognitive disorders. He has secured grants totaling over $1 million, including an NIH STTR subaward for developing cyclic peptides against drug-resistant bacteria. Key awards include the Young Scientist Award (APP, India) and the AHA Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Dr. Tiwari’s teaching spans pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences at WesternU and Chapman University, where he designed courses like Principles of Drug Action and Drug Discovery and Development. His research group investigates amphipathic cyclic peptides for antibiotic efficacy, peptide-drug conjugates for cancer treatment, and mTOR pathway modulation in neurodegenerative diseases. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Peptide Society, and other professional organizations.
Selected grants include a $240,000 NIH STTR subaward (2022–2024) and a $25,000 grant from The Potts Memorial Foundation (2020–2022). His lab develops synthetic methodologies and bioanalytical techniques using HPLC and mass spectrometry. Collaborations emphasize peptide conjugation chemistry and targeted drug delivery.
