Rajni Mehta is the Director of the Rapid Case Ascertainment (RCA) Shared Resource Core at the Yale Cancer Center, a role she has held since 2000. She specializes in cancer epidemiology, with a focus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cirrhosis. Her work involves managing studies requiring rapid case identification for prospective and retrospective epidemiologic analyses. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Yale University (1998).
Ms. Mehta’s research spans clinical outcomes in liver diseases, healthcare cost analyses, and disparities in cancer care. She has contributed to studies on the effectiveness of sorafenib, statins in cirrhosis management, and automated care coordination tools for HCC patients. She served on the Yale School of Medicine’s Human Investigation Committee (2002–2010) and the VA Cooperative Studies Program Human Rights Committee for 18 years.
Her current projects include a VA cohort study on HCC complications and healthcare costs. She advises investigators on study design and implementation, particularly in early-stage project planning. Key collaborations involve gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and oncologists.
Ms. Mehta’s work emphasizes improving healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations, such as veterans with chronic liver diseases. She has authored/co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on clinical trials, health outcomes, and epidemiologic methods. Her team’s innovations include population-based cirrhosis identification systems and algorithms for liver disease severity assessment.
