Rajesh Gogna is a Lecturer at De Montfort University, affiliated with the School of Design within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. He has built a distinguished career as a contemporary craft practitioner and educator in the field of Contemporary Silversmithing and Jewellery, gaining international recognition since 1998.
His educational background includes:
- PGCHPE in Higher and Professional Education, 2009, Staffordshire University
- MA in 3D Design (Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied Materials), 1999–2000, University of Central England, School of Jewellery
- BA (Hons) in Jewellery & Silversmithing, 1994–1998, Sheffield Hallam University
Rajesh's research and expertise center on challenging material perception and value, the function and context of traditional silver objects, and identity theory. His work bridges design practice and academic inquiry, with a strong emphasis on professional practice and new product development. He has exhibited globally, including at Christies London, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and international triennials in Germany and Denmark.
Professionally, he is recognized as a Freeman of the Goldsmiths' Company and the City of London (2013) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2014). He is actively involved in external professional networks, serving as a committee member for Contemporary British Silversmiths, focusing on skills training in higher education.
His work is held in permanent collections such as the National Museum of Wales, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, and Cartwright Hall, Bradford. Notably, he created silverware for the Government of India in 2005, inspired by historical artifacts.
Rajesh contributes to the academic community through teaching in BA Hons Design Crafts and MA Design programs, covering areas such as Design Thinking, Research for Design, and Professional Practice. He is affiliated with the Design and New Product Development research group at DMU.
