Rajeev Bhat is a Professor and Chair in Food Science and Technology at the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Tartu, Estonia), where he leads the ERA-Chair VALORTECH initiative. He holds a Doctor's Degree in Biosciences (Food Safety & Nutrition) from Mangalore University, India (2007). With over 24 years of experience, he has worked across India, South Korea, Malaysia, Germany, Fiji, and Estonia in roles spanning research, teaching, and administrative leadership.
- Current affiliations: Estonian University of Life Sciences (since 2019), leading projects like COST Action CA23107 (Evidence Synthesis in Agri-Food Sector) and CA22134 (Agrofood Loss Prevention).
- Previous roles: Associate Professor & Department Head at Fiji National University (2016–2019), Senior Lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia (2009–2012).
Research focuses on sustainable food production, food security, and circular economy technologies. Key interests include valorization of agri-food waste, bio-refinery processes, and functional food development. His work addresses challenges in food safety, biotechnology applications, and sustainable supply chains.
Over 200 peer-reviewed articles, 7 edited books, and 6 authored books. Awards include WHO Expert appointment (2023) and EASAC recognition (2022). Active in public outreach through articles on food waste solutions and vegetarian future trends.
Supervised 35 B.Tech., 14 Master’s, and 6 Ph.D. students. Leads research teams on projects like 'Valorization of Vegetable Wastes via Green Extraction' and 'Fish Waste Utilization for Textile Raw Materials'.
Labs/Teams: Head of Food Science and Technology Chair, member of multiple EU-funded research networks focusing on agri-food sustainability and innovation.
