Rajaa Saleem Sahgal is a DPhil student in History at the University of Oxford, focusing on a project titled 'A History of Archiving in Pakistan: State Control and Alternative Constructs.' Previously, she held academic roles as a Lecturer at the Department of Archive Studies, Government College University Lahore (2 years), and as visiting faculty at Beaconhouse National University's Department of Liberal Arts in Lahore.
Her research examines Pakistan's archival development from pre-independence to 1973, analyzing state control, epistemicide, and alternative archival constructs. It also explores global colonial archiving legacies and freedom of information frameworks. She holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the London School of Economics (2021) and an MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies from the University of Cambridge (2022).
As an educator, she taught BS and MPhil courses on archives, supervised 8 dissertations, and organized panel discussions/workshops. Her expertise spans cultural history, political history, and historiography with a regional focus on South Asia. She is affiliated with Linacre College at Oxford.
