Dr. Raj Raman is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University. His research focuses on perennial groundcover cropping systems, technoeconomic analysis of bioprocess systems, and sustainable agricultural practices. He leads projects like the field trials evaluating nitrogen export in perennial groundcover corn systems and has expertise in bioenergy systems and manure management.
Raman’s work integrates engineering and environmental science to address challenges in soil conservation, crop yield optimization, and sustainable intensification. His recent studies emphasize technoeconomic evaluations of perennial groundcover implementations and innovative cover cropping techniques. He has also contributed to cross-institutional initiatives supporting STEM diversity and education reforms in engineering curricula.
Key areas of research include nitrogen use efficiency, biogas production cost assessments, and the adoption of conservation practices in midwestern agriculture. His interdisciplinary approach bridges agricultural engineering with economic and policy analyses, aiming to enhance both environmental and economic outcomes in farming systems.
