Raj Badhan is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacokinetics at Aston University's Aston Pharmacy School, affiliated with the Pharmaceutical & Clinical Pharmacy Research Group (PCPRG) within the College of Health and Life Sciences. He joined Aston in 2010 after post-doctoral training at the University of Manchester's Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetics Research. His expertise spans clinical pharmacokinetics, medicines optimization, and translational research.
Education: MPharm (2001) and PhD in Pharmacology (2005) from the University of Manchester's School of Pharmacy. He maintains a part-time locum pharmacist role with national pharmacy chains since 2002.
- Research Focus: Physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling, population pharmacokinetics, and virtual clinical trials applied to medicines optimization for conditions like tropical diseases, cardiovascular disorders, and opioid abuse.
- Key Areas: Deprescribing strategies, mental health pharmacotherapy, and drug dosing in special populations (e.g., pregnancy, obesity).
Teaching responsibilities include pharmacokinetics, biopharmaceutics, and stability kinetics across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He leads the 3rd-year MPharm Pharmacokinetics module (PH3CT1) and coordinates the MSc Drug Delivery/Pharmaceutical Sciences module (BI4010).
His research group emphasizes developing predictive tools for clinical pharmacokinetics, with notable work on drug absorption modeling and CNS biodistribution. Collaborations include studies on hydrogen sulfide delivery systems and precision dosing in oncology and pregnancy.
Publications span over 40 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on innovative drug delivery systems, virtual clinical trial methodologies, and pharmacokinetic modeling for under-served populations. Supervised 12 student projects, advancing translational research in pharmacokinetics and drug delivery.
