Daniel Kirby is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Aston Pharmacy School, part of the College of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University. He has held academic roles since 2010, including his current leadership role since 2023. His research focuses on developing age-appropriate drug formulations for pediatric and geriatric populations, with a particular emphasis on polymer-based systems, 3D-printed dosage forms, and taste-masking technologies. He also leads initiatives in extemporaneous formulation to address gaps in commercially available medications for vulnerable demographics.
Education:

- Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Higher Education (Aston University, 2015)
Research Interests: His work integrates patient-centric design principles with advanced pharmaceutical technologies, including orally disintegrating tablets, lipid-based delivery systems, and 3D printing applications. Current projects address pediatric-specific challenges such as dosage form stability, palatability, and adherence.
Professional Contributions: He holds roles on the British Pharmacopoeia Expert Advisory Group on Unlicensed Medicines and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Age Related Medicines focus group. His peer-review activities include contributions to journals like the International Journal of Pharmaceutics and Journal of Liposome Research.

Teaching and Supervision: Leads courses on enteral drug delivery and pharmaceutical calculations. Currently accepting self-funded PhD students in pharmaceutics and drug delivery.
