Raichle (Rai) Farrelly is a Teaching Associate Professor and TESOL Director in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Colorado. She also serves as an English language instructor in the International English Center and holds leadership roles in professional organizations like TESOL International Association (2022-2025). Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Utah. Prior roles include Assistant Professor positions at the American University of Armenia and St. Michael’s College.
Dr. Farrelly specializes in second language teacher education, reflective teaching practices, and educating adult refugee-background learners with limited formal schooling. She co-authored Fostering International Student Success in Higher Education and co-edited volumes such as Educating Refugee-Background Students and Handbook of Research on Cultivating Literacy in Diverse Classrooms. Her current project involves editing Developing Materials for Innovative Teaching and Sustainable Learning.
Her professional service includes former roles as Executive Director of Girls Education International and co-founder of Project Wezesha, both focused on expanding educational access for marginalized groups. Her research emphasizes community-engaged learning, literacy development for underserved populations, and global TESOL professional development.
Dr. Farrelly’s work bridges theoretical and practical aspects of language education, particularly in refugee contexts. She has presented widely on pedagogical innovations and teacher training at international conferences, advocating for socially just and responsive educational practices.
