Rahul Markovits

Rahul Markovits is a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at ENS-PSL (École normale supérieure - PSL University), affiliated with the Institute of Modern and Contemporary History (IHMC) and the Centre Roland Mousnier (CRH). He is a statutory member of the CRH and leads research within the Study Group in Modern Historiographies (GEHM). His work bridges European and Euro-Indian historical narratives, focusing on mobility, diplomatic practices, and linguistic knowledge during the 18th century.

• Research Themes: Connected Stories Europe–Asia (18th century), History of Mobility, Age of Revolutions, Historiography, History and Literature
• Current Project: A cross-disciplinary study of 18th-century dragomans (interpreters/diplomats) in European and Euro-Indian contexts, analyzing social history, translation, and diplomatic practices
