Rahul Chanchlani serves as an Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics at McMaster Children's Hospital, McMaster University. He maintains additional academic appointments as associate faculty in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI), and is cross-appointed as a Scientist at ICES and the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI).
Dr. Chanchlani completed his medical degree at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in India, followed by a clinical fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and earned a Master's in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto's Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation.
His research program focuses on critical gaps in pediatric kidney diseases, with particular emphasis on acute kidney injury, kidney transplantation, hypertension, and nephrotic syndrome. Dr. Chanchlani employs interdisciplinary approaches to address these knowledge gaps, frequently utilizing population-based epidemiological methods and administrative health data to examine disease patterns, treatment effectiveness, and long-term outcomes. His work bridges clinical medicine with health services research to improve care delivery for children with kidney conditions.
Analysis of his recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a strong focus on pediatric hypertension epidemiology, acute kidney injury outcomes, and nephrotic syndrome management. His research spans multiple methodologies including large population-based cohort studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical registry development.
