Mitra K Nadim, MD, FASN is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Critical Care Nephrology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She serves as Director of USC's Hypertension Center and specializes in the diagnosis and management of resistant hypertension. Dr. Nadim has established herself as a leading expert in critical care nephrology, particularly in the intersection of kidney disease and liver disorders.
Dr. Nadim completed her medical education at UCLA Medical School followed by internship and residency at Beth Israel Hospital (affiliated with Harvard University's School of Medicine). She completed her nephrology fellowship at Brigham and Women's/Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, before returning to Southern California to join USC.
Her research focuses on the complex relationship between kidney and liver disease, with particular emphasis on acute kidney injury in cirrhosis, hepatorenal syndrome, and kidney transplantation in patients with liver disease. Dr. Nadim has been instrumental in developing consensus guidelines through her work with the Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) workgroups. She served as a National Principal Investigator in the Rheos Pivitol Trial, which investigated an implantable baroreflex device for treating resistant hypertension, demonstrating her commitment to innovative therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Nadim's scholarly contributions are reflected in numerous high-impact publications that address critical issues in nephrology and hepatology, with a focus on clinical practice guidelines and management strategies for complex patient populations.

As Director of USC's Hypertension Center, Dr. Nadim leads a multidisciplinary team focused on the diagnosis and management of complex hypertension cases, particularly resistant hypertension.
