Raghavan Raju

Raghavan Raju serves as a Professor at Augusta University with primary appointment in the Medical College of Georgia's Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and secondary appointments in the Department of Surgery and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He also holds affiliations with the Graduate School and College of Allied Health Sciences' Department of Undergraduate Health Professions.

Dr. Raju's research program focuses on molecular and immunobiological responses to traumatic injury and sepsis, particularly examining how aging influences cellular energetics and immune function. Using in vivo and in vitro models of hemorrhagic shock and sepsis, his work investigates metabolic dysregulation, oxidative stress pathways, and mitochondrial dysfunction to identify therapeutic targets for improving trauma outcomes.

His recent publications (2021-2023) demonstrate consistent focus on cellular metabolism in injury contexts, spanning age-related macular degeneration, sepsis survival mechanisms, plasma-based interventions, NAD+ metabolism in aging, and mitochondrial rescue in brain injuries. These studies collectively highlight expertise in metabolic reprogramming, oxidative stress responses, and therapeutic development for trauma pathophysiology.

Dr. Raju maintains active professional engagement through memberships in the American Association of Immunology, American Heart Association, Shock Society, and Society for Neuroscience.
