Radomír D. Kokeš, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and Deputy Head of the Institute of Film and Audiovisual Culture at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno. He has held this position since 2014 and specializes in film studies, narrative theory, and the history of Czech cinema. His academic work focuses on serial fiction, historical poetics of film, and the analysis of cinematic storytelling techniques.
Dr. Kokeš completed his doctoral studies in 2014 with a dissertation titled 'Wanderings Across Macroworlds: The Poetics of Serial Fiction' at Masaryk University's Faculty of Arts. His research interests span film analysis, narrative structures in cinema, historical poetics of Czech silent film, and the evolution of serial storytelling in audiovisual media. He has made significant contributions to understanding the narrative and stylistic characteristics of Czech cinema, particularly during the silent era and early sound period.
His recent research output shows a strong focus on historical poetics of Czech cinema, with particular attention to the 1920s and 1930s period. His publications explore the relationship between national film traditions and international influences, with recurring themes examining narrative structures, stylistic norms, and the concept of regional poetics in Central European cinema. He frequently employs neoformalist analytical frameworks while incorporating structuralist approaches to film analysis.
