Radhika Gupta is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Leiden University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, based in the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology. She holds a DPhil from Oxford University (2011) and has held postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Religious and Ethnic Diversity and Goettingen's Centre for Modern Indian Studies. Her research focuses on borderlands, transnational Islamic charity, post-colonial politics, and environmental humanities.
Currently leading an ERC-funded project on Entangled Universals of Transnational Islamic Charity (2024–2029), she authored a landmark 2023 book on Kashmir’s frontier dynamics. She coordinates Leiden’s Asia Research Cluster and teaches courses in Cultural Anthropology and Asian Studies.
Key achievements include an ERC Consolidator Grant and collaborative Seed Grant on heritage-climate governance. Her advisory work spans PhD candidates Arman Hasan and Francesca Sofia Selano, while her fieldwork spans over 17 years in academia and 7 years in international development sectors.
