Rachy Abraham is an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on understanding viral pathogenesis mechanisms, particularly ADP-ribosylation pathways in alphaviruses like Chikungunya. She holds a PhD from the University of Kerala (2016) and has received notable awards including the Dr M R Das Career Award (2016) and Fulbright Fellowship (2013).
Her work explores how viral macrodomains manipulate host cell processes, including stress granule dynamics and neurovirulence. Key contributions include identifying roles for nsP3 macrodomain activities in viral replication and developing live-attenuated Chikungunya virus strains for vaccine research. Collaborations with experts like Diane E. Griffin and Anthony K. L. Leung underpin her interdisciplinary approach to virology and host-pathogen interactions.
Recent studies highlight her team's exploration of interferon responses and ribonucleoprotein interactions in viral infections. Research is supported by grants focused on viral replication mechanisms and neurotropic viral diseases.
