Rachelle Hergenhan

Rachelle Hergenhan is a Lecturer in Animal Science at the School of Environmental and Rural Science, University of New England. She completed her PhD in early lamb behaviour in 2011 and joined UNE in 2012, initially working in sheep and wool curriculum development. From 2017–2025, she supported the SMART Farms Director in establishing UNE SMART Farms as a hub for research-industry collaboration. Her expertise spans undergraduate teaching, livestock management, and farm systems research.

Her research focuses on improving feed efficiency in beef production systems and mitigating methane emissions through selective breeding. She also investigates on-farm production efficiency and carbon accounting frameworks, aligning with sustainable agriculture priorities.
