Dr. Rachel Zellars is an Associate Professor and Acting Chair in the Department of Social Justice and Community Studies at Saint Mary’s University. Her research and teaching focus on historical and contemporary issues of racial and social justice, particularly in Canadian and Atlantic World contexts.

Her research interests include histories of anti-black schooling segregation and resistance, Black migration in the Maritimes, gender violence in Black communities, and Black radical traditions. She also examines structural anti-blackness, Black-Indigenous solidarity, and the intersections of race, gender, and law.
Dr. Zellars’ recent publications highlight transnational racial dynamics, anti-Black racism in historical and contemporary crises, and intersectional approaches to gender violence. Her work spans interdisciplinary journals and edited volumes, emphasizing critical race theory and social justice frameworks.
