Dr. Rachel Young is an Assistant Professor of Social Work, MSW Program Director, and Chair of the Social Work Department at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU). She holds a Ph.D. in Health Psychology and a Master of Philosophy in Psychology from Walden University, alongside dual BSW and MSW degrees from Andrews University. Her roles include Director of Field Education and leadership in the Traditional Social Work Program and GPS Coordinator.
Dr. Young's professional experience spans social work roles such as Director of Social Services, Medical Social Worker, and Equine Assisted Therapist. She has contributed to organizations like Lifestance Health, House of New Hope, and Reins of Freedom. Her research focuses on social work education, mental health therapy (including equine-assisted methods), child development, and substance abuse policy.
Her scholarly work includes studies on self-care practices in social work education, equine-assisted psychotherapy, and the impact of methamphetamine policies. She has presented at conferences like the Social Work Distance Education Virtual Conference and published in journals such as the Journal of Policy Practice and International Journal of Childbirth Education.
Dr. Young is recognized for academic excellence, including Summa Cum Laude honors, National Dean’s List status, and membership in Phi Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She actively participates in professional organizations like the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
