Dr. Rachel Swann is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Cardiff University's School of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from Cardiff University and has been a full-time academic since 2011. Her research focuses on night-time economies, sex work pathways, and Eliasian sociology. She teaches modules like Foundations of Contemporary Criminology and supervises PhD students in areas such as violence, sex work, and community studies.
Education: BSc (1st class) in Criminology & Social Policy (2006), MSc Social Science Research Methods (2007), PhD (2012). Awards include nominations for teaching and student experience awards, and recognition for her sociological scholarship. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and active in professional societies.
Research explores women's aggression in night-time economies, taxis and safety, and risk factors for sex work. Key projects include collaborations with Cardiff Council and Safer Wales. She co-directs the Cardiff Centre for Crime, Law and Justice.
