Rachel Ramsey serves as a Research Fellow and Impact Lead at the Institute for Economic and Social Inclusion, University of Sunderland. Her work bridges academic research with real-world problem solving through a discipline-agnostic approach that spans theoretical linguistics, network theory, vaccine hesitancy, and education spending. She has conducted both qualitative and quantitative research with diverse populations ranging from children as young as two years to adults.
Ramsey's research interests focus on testing theoretical frameworks, developing robust methodologies, and applying academic findings to practical social challenges. Her work demonstrates particular strength in translating complex research into actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners. She emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based approaches to social issues.
Her publication trajectory shows a clear evolution from foundational linguistic research toward applied public health studies, culminating in her 2023 Royal Society for Public Health report on children's vaccination attitudes. This progression reflects her commitment to addressing contemporary societal challenges through rigorous academic inquiry.
Ramsey has established significant partnerships with major organizations including PBS, No Outsiders, the BBC, the Royal Society for Public Health, Health Education England, the Cabinet Office, the NSPCC, and the British Library. From 2018-2021, she led research impact initiatives at the University of Sunderland, including delivery of the REF 2021 impact submission component.
