Rachel Mayeri is a Professor of Media Studies at Harvey Mudd College (HMC), where she teaches courses in Media Studies and the HSA core curriculum. Her work bridges art and science, focusing on intersections between biological themes, primatology, and experimental film. She leads the Primate Cinema series, including projects like Apes as Family (2011) and The Jollies (2016), which explore primate behavior and conservation through multimedia installations. Her research often involves collaborations with scientists, such as primatologists and zoologists, and has been exhibited at Sundance, Berlinale, and dOCUMENTA.
Her awards include the Wellcome Trust Major Arts Award and an Honorary Mention at Ars Electronica for Apes as Family. She has received grants from Harvey Mudd College and institutions like Art-Laboratory Berlin. Her pedagogical work spans unique courses like Animal Media Studies and Art and Biology, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach.
