Rachel King

Dr Rachel King is a Lecturer in Biological Psychology at the University of Chichester's Institute of Education, Health and Social Sciences. She is also a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Ageing and Dementia Lab and serves as a Laboratory and Technology Officer.

Her educational background includes:

• DPhil in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford
• Research MSc in Psychology (Major: Brain & Cognition, Minor: Clinical) from the University of Amsterdam
• BSc in Psychology from the University of Portsmouth

Rachel's research focuses on brain health and neurodegeneration, with particular emphasis on attentional processes in goal-directed behavior and stroke rehabilitation. Her work encompasses neuropsychological studies of auditory selective attention deficits post-stroke, cognitive training interventions for executive dysfunction, and investigations into cognitive decline following deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease. She is also deeply engaged in research integrity and ethical considerations regarding mental capacity in research consent.

Her notable scientific award is the Marie Curie Early-Stage Researcher Fellowship, which supported her DPhil research on individualised diagnostics and rehabilitation of attentional disorders.

Rachel actively supervises research projects at all levels, including PhD candidates Susan Hindman (virtual reality cognitive training for children), Camille Cousley (mental capacity assessment in dementia), and Ross Webster (end-of-life care decision making). She also oversees BSc and MSc research projects, contributing significantly to student development in neuropsychology and experimental psychology.

As a key member of the Ageing and Dementia Lab, Rachel contributes to advancing interventions that improve quality of life for individuals with cognitive difficulties, exploring both neuroplasticity-based approaches (like cognitive training and tDCS) and improvements in assessment standards and care practices.
