Rachel J. Maxwell serves as a Lecturer in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music while maintaining her full-time position as Director of Bands and webmaster at Traughber Junior High School in the Oswego School District since 1995. She additionally holds teaching appointments at North Central College and serves as the district's Junior High Performing Arts and Band Coordinator.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Illinois State University (1993, Summa Cum Laude), a Master of Music Education from the University of Illinois (1997), and a Master of Educational Leadership from Aurora University (2003), supplemented by specialized coursework in team-building, leadership, and diverse student engagement.
Ms. Maxwell's professional focus centers on practical music education implementation, band program development, and jazz pedagogy. Her expertise is demonstrated through frequent invitations as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator at major events including NC All-State Middle School Band, ISYM, Illinois State University Junior High Camp, and IMEA District Level Festivals, with particular emphasis on leadership strategies for diverse educational settings.
