Rachel Isba serves as Professor of Children and Young People's Health at Lancaster Medical School and practices as a medical doctor at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Her academic leadership spans undergraduate medical education across all five years of the program and postgraduate student supervision.
Her research focuses on paediatric public health medicine with emphasis on vaccination and pediatric addiction/dependence, alongside critical work on healthcare inequalities. Key areas include children's public health in acute care settings, delivery of specialist pediatric care for historically excluded groups, and health needs assessment in hospital environments. Current projects address vaping cessation in under-16s, hospital support for children using substances, and reducing inequalities in pediatric hospital access.
Her publication portfolio demonstrates strong trends in adolescent substance use (particularly vaping and ketamine), pandemic impacts on pediatric care, and health equity challenges. The research consistently bridges clinical practice with public health policy, emphasizing vulnerable populations and system-level interventions.
