Her work analyzes populist movements through ethnographic methods, comparing groups like the Michigan Tea Party and Argentina's La Campora. She studies how distrust in experts and media shapes information consumption patterns among populists. Teaching focuses on US politics, identity politics, and media's role in democracy. Recent projects investigate populist media ecosystems like Breaking Points and anti-lockdown movements.
Her pedagogical approach emphasizes cultivating civic skills through research literacy and critical analysis of complex information environments. She co-developed a methodology for 'theory reconstruction' to address parochial biases in political science theory development.
Before BU, she advised fellowships at Brown University. Currently advises students on balancing populist media analysis with normative democratic theory frameworks.
