Rachel Hurdley is a Research Fellow in Cultural Sociology at Cardiff University's School of Social Sciences. Her work examines how identity and power are shaped through everyday interactions with home, workspaces, and material culture. Notably, she has conducted a Leverhulme-funded ethnography on university spatial dynamics and authored the monograph Home, Materiality, Memory and Belonging (2013). She has contributed to courses in qualitative research methods and sociological theory. Her research spans material culture, memory studies, and methodological innovation, with a focus on how objects and spaces mediate social relations. Awards include The Sociological Review Fellowship (2009-10) and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2011-14). She collaborates on projects like the film series Making Wales, Remembering Home with refugee communities and explores interdisciplinary approaches like drawing in sociological analysis.
