Rachel Elliott

Rachel Elliott serves as Associate Head of School for Biosciences at the University of Sunderland's School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a Health and Care Professions Council registered Biomedical Scientist with over 16 years of experience working in laboratory diagnostics for the NHS, maintaining concurrent professional practice as a Lead BMS in Virology with South Tees NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Her research expertise centers on molecular diagnostics for viral respiratory pathogen detection, with specialized skills in Viral Serology and Molecular Diagnostics. She possesses extensive NHS laboratory management experience and maintains active research interests in Infectious Diseases, Infection Prevention Control, and Point-of-Care testing, having contributed to the university's Covid testing team as documented in May 2020 news coverage.
