Dr. Rachel Clare is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at Edge Hill University's Biology Department. She holds an honorary position at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) until 2027. With a MBiolSci from the University of Sheffield (2007) and a PhD from the University of Liverpool (2019), her research focuses on developing therapeutics against venomous envenomings and neglected tropical diseases. Her work includes pioneering the use of Galleria mellonella larvae as a preclinical model and optimizing high-throughput screening for snakebite treatments. Key contributions include the Directors Catalyst Award for assay development and an NC3Rs grant for alternative testing models.
Research emphasizes venom-neutralizing therapies, drug discovery pipelines, and improving antivenom stability. She collaborates internationally on projects like phase 1 clinical trials for unithiol and antivenom shelf-life extension studies. Her grants and awards reflect commitment to advancing treatments for snakebites and tropical diseases.
