Dr Rachel Bright is a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at Keele University's School of Humanities (since 2011), directing the MA/MRes History programs. She holds a PhD from King's College London and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of East Anglia. Her roles include serving on the Social History Society committee, co-convening their Deviance strand, and reviewing for the Newton Fund and British Council.
Her research focuses on migration, settler colonialism, and race in South Africa and Australia, including seminal works like Chinese Labour in South Africa, 1902-10. Recent work explores gendered migration policies and digital archives of domestic violence. She has held visiting fellowships at the Australian National University and presented globally on topics like British World migration.
Awards include UK Higher Education Academy Fellowship (2017) and Aurora leadership programme completion. Teaching includes modules on imperialism, race in colonial Africa, and historical research methods.
