Rachael Aplin is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University's Criminology Department within Leeds Law School. She holds Senior Fellow Status of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and has extensive experience in policing, academia, and organizational change. Her career spans roles as a detective with Greater Manchester Police (1994–2013), business process reengineering consultant (2010–2012), and curriculum developer for policing degrees.
- Education: PhD in Criminology (2018), MBA, and prior academic qualifications.
Research Interests: Focuses on policing practices, police culture, honour-based abuse, domestic violence, child protection, and fraud investigations. Her doctoral research analyzed 100 classified police cases and interviewed 15 detectives to understand discretionary practices in honour-based abuse investigations.
Teaching & Leadership: Course lead for Policing degrees (2019–2024), relicensed a policing degree program at York St John University (2023–2024), and developed training materials for police and CPS collaboration. Current modules include Violent and Sexual Offending, Policing and Criminal Justice, and Domestic Abuse.

- Edited a national practitioner guide for public protection (2024).
- Delivered training on unused material/file preparation (2012).
- Authored GMP guidelines on crime investigations (2006–2011).
Awards & Recognition: SFHEA 2022, invited speaker at international conferences (Denmark 2024), and reference group member for Swedish government-funded gender research (Gothenburg University).
