Rachael Barton is a Senior Lecturer in Nurse Education with extensive clinical and academic experience. She transitioned from NHS clinical practice to academia in 2021 to pursue a research career. Her clinical background includes roles such as Clinical Nurse Specialist in Chronic Pain at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, where she specialized in neuropathic pain conditions and developed innovative services like Nurse-Led High Concentration Capsaicin clinics.
Education:
- MSc in Pain Management, Cardiff University (2015)
- Adult Nursing Degree, Edge Hill University (2007)
Research Interests: Focused on pain management, opioid weaning, neuropathic pain (including Post Surgical, Diabetic, Phantom Limb, and Central Neuropathic Pain), and advancing pain education in nursing curricula. She collaborates with industry and healthcare professionals to improve patient care standards.
External Engagement: Active member of the Future NHS Collaboration and Chief Nursing Officer for England’s Policy Network. Supports The Pain Relief Foundation, a charity focused on pain research and patient support.
Teaching: Involves undergraduate nursing, Nurse-Paramedic BSc, and Nurse Associate programs. Advocates for enhanced pain education in nursing training.
Projects: Co-investigator in a descriptive phenomenological study exploring support needs for neurodiverse students and lecturers in pre-registration nursing programs at a UK university.
