Dr. R. Nanre Nafziger is an Assistant Professor in Black/African Studies in Education at McGill University's Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). Her work bridges critical education theory, Pan-Africanist organizing, and social justice activism. She holds a PhD from Pennsylvania State University, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University and Boston College.
Her research focuses on decolonial approaches to education, Black social movements, youth civic engagement, and critical policy studies. Key themes include historical consciousness in conflict zones (e.g., Nigeria's Jos region), the political economy of education, and participatory research methodologies.
Recent scholarship examines Black liberation pedagogies influenced by Freirean thought, the #EndSARS movement's class dynamics, and strategies for building transnational solidarity against state violence. Her work often intersects with global South contexts, emphasizing education's role in nation-building and democratic processes.
