R. Keller Kopf is a Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Zoology at Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Science and Technology, specializing in ecology and conservation biology. He leads the Bachelor of Environmental Science program and teaches courses in statistical analysis and biological research design. His research focuses on applied and fundamental questions related to fish ecology, river-floodplain management, and sustainable fisheries in tropical Australia, particularly Northern Territory ecosystems.
Dr. Kopf collaborates on numerous projects addressing climate change impacts, water resource management, and invasive species. He has contributed to initiatives like the Assessment of Climate Change Risks to NT Ecosystems and the Adelaide River Technical Advisory Panel. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life on land and below water.
Key research themes include fish community dynamics, trophic interactions, and the ecological roles of large predators like crocodiles. Recent studies explore biodiversity indicators for wetlands, citizen science applications in fisheries, and the effects of water abstraction on aquatic species. His publications emphasize statistical modeling and field-based approaches to ecological conservation.
Dr. Kopf supervises postgraduate research and has been involved in grants totaling millions of AUD. He is a co-investigator on projects spanning 2020–2028, including studies on sustainable fisheries, carnivore restoration, and water security in northern Australia.
