Dr. Cameron Baker is a Research Fellow in Ecology at Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Science and Technology and the Research Institute for Environment and Livelihoods. His work focuses on spatial ecology, exploring how environmental factors influence species behavior and movement, with a particular emphasis on crocodiles and other reptiles. He completed his PhD in 2023 at the University of Queensland, studying the movement ecology and social structure of estuarine crocodiles.
His research integrates multidisciplinary approaches, including behavioral studies, thermoregulation analysis, and population dynamics modeling. Key areas of interest include climate change impacts on reptiles, human-wildlife interaction dynamics, and the ecological roles of large carnivores. Recent studies have examined how tourism affects crocodile bioenergetics and the relationship between crocodile density and human attack prevalence.
Baker contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life on land and climate action. He is a core researcher on the DP210103369 project investigating large carnivore restoration's ecological impacts. His work emphasizes conservation applications, such as informing wildlife management strategies and enhancing biodiversity protection.
