R. John Williams is an Associate Professor of English and Film Studies at Yale University. His research focuses on international histories of technological innovation and intersections between cultural otherness and media representation. He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UC Irvine (2008).
His award-winning book The Buddha in the Machine (2014) examines Asian/American aesthetics in film and literature, winning the 2015 Harry Levin Prize. Current work includes The Oracles of World Time, exploring global temporal frameworks.
Affiliations include Yale's Film Studies Program and participation in initiatives like the European Cinema Series and Movie Memory Project. Teaching focuses on transnational cinema and media theory.
