Qin Yu

Qin Yu serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at South China Agricultural University and Principal Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia (UWA) within the School of Agriculture and Environment. With over two decades of research experience since joining UWA in 2001, Dr. Yu leads investigations into herbicide resistance mechanisms across major weed species, integrating biochemical, molecular, and genetic approaches to address global agricultural challenges.

Current work examines resistance evolution in species like Lolium rigidum and Eleusine indica, with emphasis on gene discovery for glyphosate, trifluralin, and paraquat resistance. This research directly supports sustainable agriculture through the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework.

Recent publications (2025) demonstrate a concentrated investigation into molecular resistance mechanisms across diverse weed species. Key patterns include cytochrome P450-mediated metabolic resistance, copy number variations affecting fitness advantages, and allelic interactions in target-site resistance. These studies employ genomic, transcriptomic, and functional validation approaches to identify resistance-conferring genes and alleles.
