Qiang Li is a SUNY Empire Innovation Professor and APS Fellow at Stony Brook University's Department of Physics and Astronomy, with a joint appointment at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) leading the Advanced Energy Materials Group. His research focuses on quantum materials for energy and quantum information systems, combining materials synthesis, characterization, and theoretical modeling. Notable contributions include discoveries of 2D superconductivity in HTS (2007) and chiral magnetic effect (2014). He holds a BSc from University of Science and Technology of China (1986) and PhD from Iowa State University (1991).
Research interests span topological materials, superconductivity, and quantum device fabrication. Techniques include single-crystal growth, transport measurements, synchrotron-based spectroscopy, and first-principles modeling. Recent work emphasizes topological phase transitions and scalable superconducting/thermoelectric materials for energy applications.
Scientific awards include SUNY Empire Innovation Professorship and APS Fellowship. His group's work bridges fundamental physics and practical applications in quantum computing, energy conversion, and microelectronics. Collaborations involve national labs and international teams.
