Brookhaven National Laboratoryمعرفی
Christopher C. Homes is a Physicist in the Electronic Structure Techniques Group at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Condensed Matter Physics & Materials Science Directorate, specializing in infrared and terahertz spectroscopy of quantum materials. Holding tenure since 2003, his research focuses on strongly correlated electron systems including cuprate and iron-based superconductors, Dirac/Weyl semimetals, and colossal magnetoresistance materials. He utilizes synchrotron-based techniques at NSLS-II beamlines to study low-energy collective modes and electronic structure.
Research Interests: Homes investigates emergent phenomena in quantum materials through precision optical spectroscopy. Key areas include pseudogap behavior in underdoped cuprates, charge-stripe ordering in transition metal oxides, multiband superconductivity in iron-based systems, and topological electronic states in semimetals. His development of the 'two-Drude' model enables separation of electron/hole carrier dynamics in iron pnictides.
Honors: Recognized with multiple prestigious awards including APS Fellowship (2008) for "pioneering infrared studies of high-temperature superconductors and correlated electron systems" and the Brookhaven Science & Technology Award (2007). Serves as validation lead for the Center for Computational Material Spectroscopy and Design (Comscope).
Facilities: Pioneered experimental methodologies including submillimeter-sample reflectance techniques and silicon-based terahertz beam splitters. Current work leverages NSLS-II's ultra-bright synchrotron light for far-infrared nanospectroscopy of 2D materials and quantum heterostructures.
