Qian Yuan

Qian (Chan) Yuan is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Department of Geology and Geophysics, Texas A&M University. He leads the IMPACT Lab (Intelligent Modeling of Planetary Accretion, Convection, and Tectonics), focusing on questions about planetary habitability and Earth's geodynamic processes.

• Education: PhD in Geodynamics (Arizona State University, 2022); O.K. Earl Postdoctoral Fellow (Caltech, 2022-2025).

Research Interests combine planetary geodynamics, physics-based machine learning, and high-performance computing to study processes like subduction initiation and mantle evolution. His work often addresses connections between Earth's deep interior and surface habitability.

Publications reflect a focus on impact-driven planetary evolution, mantle dynamics, and interdisciplinary computational methods. Recent papers explore topics like Theia's role in Earth's mantle anomalies and LLSVP stability mechanisms.
