Qi Wang is the Joan K. and Irwin M. Jacobs Professor of Human Development, Psychology, and Cognitive Science at Cornell University's College of Human Ecology. With a PhD in Psychology from Harvard University (2000) and a BSc from Peking University (1989), she directs the Culture & Cognition Lab while serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition.
- PhD: Harvard University (2000)
- MA: Harvard University
- BSc: Peking University (China)
Her research integrates developmental, cognitive, and sociocultural perspectives to examine cultural influences on autobiographical memory, future thinking, emotion cognition, and metacognition. Current studies focus on digital memory construction during pandemic times, cultural differences in event segmentation, and the triangular theory of self in social media contexts.
Recent publications (2024-2008) demonstrate cross-cultural temporal cognition patterns, digital anonymity effects on moral behavior, and cultural self-construal impacts on memory systems. Key findings include cultural differences in event segmentation mechanisms and the three-selves framework in online identity formation.
- Young Scientist Award (ISSBD, 2006)
- Distinguished Contributions to Early Research (SRCD, 2005)
- Outstanding Contribution (SRCD Asian Caucus, 2013)
- SUNY Chancellor's Award (2022)
- APS Fellow
- Psychonomic Society Fellow
As department chair (2017-2021), she pioneered initiatives for academic distinction and inclusion. Collaborative projects with neuroscientists demonstrated cultural modulation of event segmentation processes through holistic vs analytic perceptual styles. Current lab work investigates culturally mediated memory practices and digital cognition across lifespan stages.
