Pärt Peterson (b. 1966) is a full-time Professor of Molecular Immunology at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Medicine. He has held various leadership roles including Head of the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine (2013–2015, 2019–2021) and currently serves on the Editorial Board of Immunology Letters and as a member of the Estonian Bioethics Council.
- Doctorate in Molecular Immunology (University of Tampere, 1996)
- Master's Degree in Biology (University of Tartu, 1992)
His research focuses on central immune tolerance, autoimmune diseases, and genetic/epigenetic mechanisms in conditions like APECED syndrome. Recent work includes:
- Single-cell immunology of aging and autoimmune disorders
- Interferon autoantibodies in severe COVID-19
- Macrophage reprogramming in cancer immunotherapy
- Epigenetic regulation of T-cell enhancer landscapes
Publications from 2017–2024 demonstrate expertise in immunosenescence, viral immunology, and translational immunotherapy. He received Estonia's National Science Award in 2009 and 2022 for groundbreaking work on immune tolerance and aging immunity.
Notable contributions include developing peptide-drug conjugates for tumor macrophage depletion and characterizing AIRE-dependent immune mechanisms. He actively participates in governmental science advisory bodies, including the COVID Science Council (2022–present).
